Healthcare
Interoperable, secure systems for providers, payers and health tech, plus the specialists to run them.

Overview
Technology in Healthcare
Hospitals, health systems, payers and health technology companies need clinical and administrative systems that exchange data safely and stay available around the clock. One weak integration or unpatched device can put patient data, and patient care, at risk.
Desmata builds and secures healthcare software, integrations and data platforms, and staffs the EHR, interoperability and security roles that keep them running. The goal is fewer compliance surprises, faster integration delivery and less strain on your own team.
Healthcare is one of our priority sectors. We work inside your privacy, security and clinical change processes, and we scope any work that touches patient data before it starts.

What technology leaders here are dealing with
Challenge 1: EHR programs that run long and over budget
Moving to or optimizing Epic or Oracle Health pulls in analysts, builders, testers and trainers for months. Gaps in staffing or integration planning push go-live dates and strain clinicians.
Challenge 2: Interoperability mandates
Information blocking rules, USCDI and the CMS interoperability and prior authorization rule push providers and payers toward FHIR-based APIs. Many organizations still depend on HL7 v2 interfaces that must keep working alongside them.
Challenge 3: Ransomware and connected devices
Health systems are frequent targets, and every infusion pump, imaging system and clinical workstation is a possible entry point. Downtime is a patient safety issue, not just an IT issue.
Challenge 4: AI that needs governance
Ambient documentation, coding assistance and prediction tools are moving into clinical and revenue workflows. Leaders need to show where data goes, who reviews outputs and how privacy is protected.
Challenge 5: Hard-to-fill technical roles
Epic and Oracle Health analysts, interface engineers and healthcare security staff are in short supply. Open roles slow projects and push overtime onto existing teams.
How we help
Where Desmata fits in
Build and integrate clinical and patient applications
We develop patient-facing apps, provider tools and integrations using HL7 and FHIR, so data moves between systems without manual rekeying.
Assess and strengthen security
We review access, endpoints, monitoring and incident response against HIPAA Security Rule safeguards and give you a ranked plan, so risk drops where it matters most.
Modernize onto secure cloud
We design cloud environments for systems that hold patient data, with encryption, access control and logging planned from the start.
Turn clinical and operational data into insight
We build governed data platforms and dashboards for quality, utilization, revenue cycle and capacity, so leaders decide from one set of numbers.
Support EHR and application rollouts
Implementation teams cover build, testing, cutover and stabilization so your own staff can stay focused on care.
Staff healthcare IT roles
We recruit EHR analysts, interface engineers, healthcare data analysts and security professionals on contract, contract-to-hire or direct hire.
Use cases
What we deliver in this sector
HL7 v2 to FHIR integration layer
Wrap existing interfaces with FHIR APIs so new apps and partners can connect while legacy feeds keep working.
Payer prior authorization and patient access APIs
Build and test the FHIR-based APIs payers need for patient access, provider access and prior authorization workflows.
Healthcare security assessment
Review identity, network segmentation, backups and incident response for systems that hold patient data, and produce a prioritized remediation plan.
Quality and revenue cycle analytics
Combine EHR, claims and operational data into dashboards that show denials, throughput and quality measures in one place.
Telehealth and patient engagement apps
Design secure scheduling, messaging and remote visit tools that connect to the EHR instead of running beside it.
Staffing an EHR go-live
Supply analysts, testers and interface engineers for an Epic or Oracle Health rollout, with extensions as the project phases change.

Regulations and standards
Standards we design for
The rules that shape technology work in this sector, and that we build and staff around.
HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules
These govern how protected health information is used, shared and secured. We design systems around the Security Rule safeguards and track the proposed update that would make controls such as MFA and encryption mandatory.
HITECH Act and Breach Notification Rule
These add breach reporting duties and expand responsibility to business associates. We build logging, access records and incident response steps that support those duties.
21st Century Cures Act, ONC rules, FHIR and USCDI
Information blocking rules and certification criteria push data sharing through standard APIs. We design interfaces on HL7 FHIR R4 and staff people experienced in them.
CMS Interoperability and Prior Authorization rule
Impacted payers must provide FHIR-based Patient Access, Provider Access, Payer-to-Payer and Prior Authorization APIs. We work within these API requirements and timelines.
FDA medical device cybersecurity expectations
Device makers submitting premarket applications face cybersecurity requirements, including software bills of materials. We staff engineers experienced in secure device software and its documentation.
Texas Medical Records Privacy Act
Texas applies its own medical privacy rules, which are broader in scope than HIPAA. We work within them for Texas providers and vendors.
These are the regulations and standards that shape work in this sector. We design and staff for them. They are not certifications held by Desmata.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Is Desmata HIPAA certified?
There is no official HIPAA certification, and we do not claim one. HIPAA applies to covered entities and business associates, and we design and staff work to fit its Privacy and Security Rules.
How do you handle protected health information?
Work that touches patient data is scoped first: which data, who has access and under what agreement. We follow your security policies and keep access to the minimum the work needs.
Can you staff Epic or Oracle Health roles?
Yes. We recruit analysts, builders, testers and interface engineers for rollouts, upgrades and support. Tell us the application modules and go-live date and we will outline options.
Do you build FHIR APIs for payers and providers?
Yes. We design and test FHIR-based APIs and integration layers, including those payers need under the CMS interoperability rule. We can also add the engineers your team is missing.
Can you help with medical device software?
We can staff engineers, QA and security specialists for device software and connected health products, and run security assessments. Regulatory submissions remain with your quality and regulatory team.
