Overview

About Cloud & Infrastructure Modernization

Cloud pays off when applications are designed or reshaped for it. Desmata plans and carries out migrations, builds cloud-native applications, and sets up the pipelines and guardrails that keep environments consistent and secure. Architecture is sized to your workloads and your budget, not to a vendor's reference diagram.

We treat infrastructure as code. Environments are defined in Terraform or a native tool, deployed through CI/CD, and checked by automated policy, so changes are reviewed and repeatable. Security checks sit in the pipeline from the first commit, which is the practical core of DevSecOps.

Many organizations will run in more than one place, and we design for that. Hybrid and multi-cloud architectures are planned with clear cost ownership, so growth does not produce a surprise bill.

Outcomes

What you get

  • A migration plan you can defend

Each application is assessed and assigned a path: rehost, replatform, refactor, replace, retire or retain. You see the sequence, the risks and a realistic cost picture.

  • Environments that match every time

Infrastructure as code removes manual drift between development, test and production.

  • Security built into delivery

Scanning, secrets management and policy checks run in the pipeline, so issues are caught before release.

  • Cloud spend you can explain

Tagging, budgets and right-sizing tie cost to teams and products.

Capabilities

What we do, in detail

  • Cloud-native application design

Applications that scale and recover without heroics.

    • Microservices and serverless patterns where they fit
    • Containers on Kubernetes (EKS, AKS, GKE)
    • Resilience design: multi-zone, backup and disaster recovery
    • Design reviews against AWS, Azure and Google Cloud architecture frameworks
  • Migration and modernization

    Staged moves that protect operations.

    • Discovery and dependency mapping
    • Landing zone design with network, identity and logging
    • Database and storage migration with cutover rehearsals
    • Decommissioning plans for retired systems
  • Infrastructure as code, DevSecOps and CI/CD

Delivery pipelines that are fast and safe.

    • Terraform modules and policy as code
    • CI/CD with GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins or Azure DevOps
    • Container and dependency scanning, secrets management
    • GitOps deployment with Argo CD
  • Secure data lake and warehouse environments

Storage and analytics foundations with access controls.

    • Lake and warehouse design on S3, Azure Data Lake Storage, BigQuery or Snowflake
    • Encryption, key management and fine-grained access
    • Data retention and lifecycle policies
    • Private networking for sensitive data
  • Hybrid, multi-cloud and cost optimization

Architecture that stays affordable as it grows.

    • Hybrid connectivity and workload placement
    • FinOps practices: tagging, showback and budgets
    • Right-sizing, reserved capacity and storage tiering
    • Observability across providers

Approach

How an engagement runs

  1. Step 1: Assess

We inventory applications, data and dependencies, and rate each for cloud fit, risk and effort.

  2. Step 2: Design the foundation

Accounts, networking, identity, logging and guardrails are defined before the first workload moves.

  3. Step 3: Migrate or build in waves

Workloads move in small groups, with rehearsed cutovers and rollback plans.

  4. Step 4: Automate and secure

Pipelines, policy checks and monitoring are put in place, so the new environment stays consistent.

  5. Step 5: Operate and optimize

We track cost, performance and reliability, and tune the environment. Your team can take over or we can run it with you.

Engagement models

Ways to work with us

  • Cloud assessment and roadmap

A time-boxed review that ends in a prioritized migration plan with cost estimates.

  • Migration or build project

A defined set of workloads moved or built by a Desmata team.

  • Managed platform team

Cloud and DevOps engineers who run your platform backlog on a continuing basis.

  • Staff augmentation

Cloud architects or engineers added to your own team.

Technology and talent

Technology and talent together

Cloud skills are scarce and hard to judge in an interview. We screen for hands-on experience with the platforms above, and place people on contract, contract-to-hire or permanent roles.

Roles we can also staff

  • Cloud architect
  • Cloud engineer (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • DevOps engineer
  • Site reliability engineer
  • Platform engineer
  • Kubernetes administrator
  • Cloud security engineer
  • FinOps analyst
  • Data platform engineer
  • Linux systems administrator

Need the people as well as the plan?

The engineers who design the work and the specialists who join your team come from one firm.

Why Desmata

Why Desmata

  • Fit to your workloads

We recommend the platform and pattern that suit each application, including leaving some workloads where they are.

  • Platform skills on tap

Our recruiters can add cloud and DevOps engineers to a migration without a separate vendor search.

  • Cost and reliability as targets

We set measurable goals, such as deployment frequency, recovery objectives and unit cost, and track them after go-live.

  • Flexible delivery models

Onshore leadership with nearshore or offshore capacity helps cover build work and out-of-hours operations.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Which cloud should we use?

It depends on your existing licenses, data location, compliance needs and team skills. We work with AWS, Azure and Google Cloud, and recommend based on those factors, not on a preferred vendor.

Do we have to move everything?

No. Some applications gain little from migration, and some are best retired. Our assessment assigns each workload a path and shows the cost and risk of each choice.

How do you control cloud costs?

We set up tagging and budgets from the start, right-size resources, and review usage regularly. Cost ownership is assigned to teams so that spending is visible to the people who drive it.

Can you support regulated workloads?

We design environments with controls that align to frameworks such as NIST 800-53, HIPAA and SOC 2, including encryption, logging and access control. Your compliance team and any independent assessor remain responsible for formal attestations.

Plan the move before you make it
