Overview
About Contract-to-Hire
Interviews only tell you so much. With contract-to-hire, a consultant works with your team on real projects for an agreed period, and you decide whether to make a permanent offer at the end of it.
We agree the contract period and the conversion terms before the search starts, so there are no surprises later. Candidates know the path from the first conversation, which helps us attract people who want a permanent role.
The approach suits technical roles where fit shows up in the work, such as an engineer who must learn your codebase or an analyst who must earn the trust of business teams. A trial period lets that fit show itself.

What you get
Evidence over impressions
You see how someone works, communicates and solves problems before you commit to a permanent hire.
Speed
A consultant can start while internal headcount approvals are completed.
A fair test for both sides
Candidates can judge the team, the work and the culture before they accept a permanent role.
Terms agreed upfront
Contract length and conversion terms are set at the start, which keeps the process predictable.

Approach
How an engagement runs
Step 1: Agree the terms
We set contract length, expected conversion point and conversion terms with you before sourcing begins.
Step 2: Find candidates open to both
We search for candidates who want a permanent role and are comfortable starting on contract.
Step 3: Present and select
You review short-listed profiles, interview and choose.
Step 4: Work together
The consultant joins your team on our payroll, and we check in with both sides during the contract.
Step 5: Convert or restart
If it is a match, the consultant moves to your payroll. If not, we restart the search.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Who pays the consultant during the contract?
Desmata keeps the consultant on our payroll during the contract and bills you under the agreed terms. If you convert, the consultant moves to your payroll.
How long is a typical contract-to-hire period?
It depends on the role and how long it takes to see the work. We set the period with you at intake, and it can be adjusted if you agree it up front.
Will good candidates accept contract-to-hire?
Many will when the path is clear and the role is real. We tell candidates about the conversion plan from the first call, so the people we present want the permanent role.
What happens if we decide not to convert?
The contract ends under its terms. If the match was not right, we can restart the search for the role.
Hire with confidence
