Insurance
Policy, billing and claims modernization, with the automation and platform talent to deliver it.
MBE certified (Minority Business Enterprise)

Overview
Technology in Insurance
Insurers are replacing aging policy and claims systems, opening digital channels for customers and agents, and automating work that used to be manual. Every one of those moves touches regulated data and long-lived customer commitments.
Desmata brings product engineering, data and automation work together with IT staffing. We build the connected systems and supply the analysts, configurators and engineers who understand insurance platforms.
Our aim is shorter claims cycles and fewer manual touches. We also aim for releases that pass security and regulatory review without rework.

What technology leaders here are dealing with
Challenge 1: Policy and claims systems that limit change
Legacy platforms make new products, rates and rules slow to launch. Carriers want to modernize in phases without disrupting open policies and active claims.
Challenge 2: Manual claims work
Adjusters still read and rekey large volumes of documents. That adds cycle time and error, and it limits how many claims a team can handle at peak.
Challenge 3: Cloud platform migrations
Carriers are moving from on-premises Guidewire and Duck Creek installations to cloud versions. Customizations, integrations and data have to be rationalized before the move, and that work needs experienced people.
Challenge 4: Data security and AI oversight rules
State data security laws based on the NAIC model, NYDFS Part 500 and the NAIC AI bulletin set expectations for security programs, vendor oversight and AI governance. Carriers need to document how systems and models are controlled.
Challenge 5: A thin bench of platform specialists
Guidewire and Duck Creek configurators, integration developers and claims analysts are hard to hire. Projects stall waiting for the right skill set.
How we help
Where Desmata fits in
Modernize policy, billing and claims applications
We build the integrations, portals and services around your core platform, and plan phased moves off legacy systems so policies and claims keep flowing.
Automate claims and underwriting workflows
We apply NLP-based document understanding, workflow automation and analytics to cut manual rekeying and speed triage.
Build actuarial and operational data platforms
We unify policy, claims, billing and external data on a governed platform, so actuaries, finance and operations work from the same data.
Move to cloud with security in the design
We plan cloud migrations and secure environments for sensitive policyholder data, including identity, encryption and monitoring.
Implement and upgrade insurance platforms
Implementation teams handle configuration, data migration, testing and cutover for platform programs.
Staff insurance technology roles
We recruit Guidewire and Duck Creek developers, claims and policy business analysts, data engineers and QA specialists.
Use cases
What we deliver in this sector
Claims intake and triage automation
Read incoming documents, extract the key facts, flag missing information and route each claim to the right queue.
Guidewire cloud upgrade planning
Inventory customizations and integrations, decide what to keep, retire or rebuild, and sequence the move.
Agent and policyholder portals
Build self-service quoting, billing and claim status on top of your policy and billing systems.
Claims and loss analytics
Combine claims, policy and external data to show cycle time, severity trends and leakage in a dashboard your team can act on.
Insurance security assessment
Review access, vendor connections and incident response for systems holding policyholder data, and map findings to NAIC-model and NYDFS expectations.

Regulations and standards
Standards we design for
The rules that shape technology work in this sector, and that we build and staff around.
NAIC Insurance Data Security Model Law (#668)
The model sets expectations for an information security program, oversight of third-party providers and notification after a cybersecurity event. States adopt it with differences, and we design to the version that applies to you.
NAIC Model Bulletin on the use of AI by insurers
Regulators expect governance, testing and documentation for AI used in insurance decisions. We build automation with traceable inputs and human review points.
NYDFS 23 NYCRR 500
The New York cybersecurity regulation sets detailed requirements for insurers licensed in that state, including access controls and incident reporting. We work within it for covered carriers.
GLBA and state privacy laws
Customer and policyholder data is protected by federal and state privacy law. We design data flows and retention with those duties in mind.
ACORD data standards
Common data and messaging standards simplify exchange between carriers, agents and partners. We staff people experienced in them for integration work.
These are the regulations and standards that shape work in this sector. We design and staff for them. They are not certifications held by Desmata.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Do you work with Guidewire and Duck Creek?
We recruit and place developers, configurators and analysts who work on both platforms, and we build integrations and portals around them. Tell us the modules and version and we will say what we can staff.
Can automation really help with claims?
It helps most on document-heavy steps such as intake, triage and data entry. We aim for fewer manual touches while keeping adjusters in charge of decisions, and we agree measures with you up front.
How do you handle policyholder data?
We work inside your environment and security rules. We scope access first, design to the privacy and data security laws that apply to you, and keep a clear record of who touched what.
Can you help with a Guidewire cloud move?
Yes, with assessment, rationalizing customizations and integrations, data migration support and testing. We can also staff the specialists a program is short of.
Do you hold insurance regulatory approvals?
No. NAIC and state rules apply to carriers and their service providers, and we design and staff work to help you meet them. The only certification Desmata holds is MBE (Minority Business Enterprise).
Shorten claims cycles and modernize with less risk
Tell us which platform, process or backlog is holding you back. We will respond with a scope, a team and a sequence that protects open policies and claims.
