Transforming Human Resources with Technology

Travelers now plan, book and manage trips almost entirely on their phones, and they compare every experience with the best one they have had anywhere. For travel and tourism companies, technology has moved from a back-office function to the product itself.
Many travel businesses still depend on reservation systems that were built for a different era. Inventory, pricing and customer records often live in separate systems that do not talk to each other. The result is slow pages, inconsistent availability and offers that ignore what the company already knows about the customer.
The work usually falls into three parts. First, the booking flow is rebuilt around speed and clarity, with as few steps as possible and a design that works on a small screen first. Second, the systems behind it are connected, so that availability, pricing and customer history come from one reliable source. Third, data is put to work: search and booking behavior feeds recommendations and offers that are relevant to the individual traveler.
A connected platform lets a travel company respond to demand as it changes, present options that fit each customer and support travelers throughout the trip rather than only at the point of sale. Operations teams gain a single view of bookings and performance instead of several partial ones.
The technology is rarely the hard part. The difficult work is agreeing what a great customer journey looks like and then removing every system boundary that gets in its way. Teams that start from the traveler and work backwards make better technology decisions.
